This sculptural side table by Giuseppe Scapinelli was made in Brazil in the 1950's. The piece is crafted from solid wood with a glass top, and shows Scapinelli’s signature approach to form—elegant, but with a distinct sense of movement. The structure is composed of softly curved legs that taper into hoof-like feet, joined by dynamic stretchers, one of which includes metal rods. The glass top rests securely within carved wooden lips that double as subtle decorative accents.
Scapinelli was an Italian-born designer who became a prominent figure in Brazil’s mid-century modern movement. His work often merges European craftsmanship with Brazilian materials and a certain sculptural rhythm, clearly visible in this table.
This model, while lesser known than his larger cabinets or lounge chairs, shows the same attention to proportion and detail. It’s functional, but with just enough flair to stand out—ideal as a side or occasional table in a space that values both craftsmanship and form.
