Oscar Torlasco Desk Lamp in Bordeaux Red Metal and Brass for Lumi, Italy, 1950's

Table lamp by Oscar Torlasco, made in Italy in the late 1950's or early 1960's for Lumi in Milan. It’s got that typical Italian flair: sharp lines, great colors, and a clever construction without shouting for attention. The brass arm has a soft curve that gives it a bit of movement, and the shade is fully adjustable. Still in its original lacquer — a mix of burgundy and deep red — with just the right amount of patina.

The switch is neatly integrated in the base, and the whole lamp has a nice weight to it. It feels solid, well made — like the kind of thing you want on your desk or side table, even if you don’t really need the light on.

Oscar Torlasco was one of those postwar Italian designers who managed to make things that were both technical and elegant without overcomplicating them. He often worked with lens systems and optics, but here you see a more stripped-down version of his style. Smart, practical, and quietly beautiful.
