Arne Vodder Sideboard in Brazilian Rosewood and Metal, Denmark, 1960's
Sideboard designed by Arne Vodder, made in Denmark in the 1960's, with signature tambour doors that slide smoothly into the back panel. This clever construction makes for a clean and functional front — no doors to swing open, just elegant movement disappearing into the cabinet itself.
The piece is made of rosewood, with a deep tone and a lively grain. The craftsmanship is evident in the precision of the joinery and the neat interior shelving. Even the small details, like the hand-shaped grips and the finish on the interior edges, show great care in execution.
One playful and modern feature is the set of chromed metal legs. Underneath each leg sits a turned wooden foot, creating a nice contrast in material and texture.
The condition is excellent. No distracting marks, no odors, and no warping. The back is finished in rosewood, making the piece suitable as a freestanding object.
There’s a serial number marked on the underside in Arne Vodder’s characteristic typeface, also seen on some of his chairs — a subtle but telling attribution.
The cabinet shows minimal signs of sun exposure, retaining its original tone throughout. All tambour panels run smoothly and the shelving is clean and intact. A well-preserved example of Danish modernism, functional and inviting in equal measure.
