Hauner & Eisler

Carlo Hauner (1927–1997) trained as a painter in Brescia, Italy before emigrating to Brazil after the Second World War, while Martin Eisler (1913–1977), born in Vienna and trained at its School of Applied Arts, fled Austria in 1938 and settled first in Buenos Aires. The two met when Eisler had furniture made at Hauner’s São Paulo workshop, Artesanal, and became partners in 1953; together they built Forma S/A Móveis e Objetos de Arte into one of Brazil’s leading modernist furniture houses, and in 1959 signed a manufacturing agreement with Knoll International.
