Fabricius & Kastholm

Preben Fabricius (1931–1984) trained as a cabinetmaker under Niels Vodder before studying under Finn Juhl; Jørgen Kastholm was a fellow student at the same design school. The two set up a shared studio in Gentofte in 1961, working together for seven years on a minimalist steel-and-leather idiom that included the Grasshopper and Scimitar chairs, produced from 1965 by the German manufacturer Alfred Kill. Their partnership ended in 1968; the FK ‘Tulip’ chair won the German Gute Form prize in 1969.
