Carlo Scarpa

Carlo Scarpa (1906–1978) was a Venetian architect, designer and glass artist trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. From 1932 to 1947 he worked as artistic director for the Murano glassmakers Cappellin and Venini, and from the 1960s designed furniture for Dino Gavina’s company, including the Cornaro sofa (1973). He taught at Venice’s Istituto Universitario di Architettura and is remembered above all for buildings such as the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona and the Brion Tomb at Altivole.
