Set of three ‘Campanula’ lounge chairs in pink Velvet by Carlo Pagano for Arflex, Italy, 1952.
Set of three ‘Campanula’ lounge chairs designed by Carlo Pagano and produced by Arflex in Italy, 1952. These chairs are a fine example of early postwar Italian design, with their sculptural shell, soft curves, and tapered black metal legs with brass feet. The combination of velvet upholstery and light metal structure gives them an elegant, airy presence.
The warm pink velvet is in good vintage condition overall. One chair has a small frayed area on the back, but when placed against a wall this is barely noticeable. Reupholstery can be arranged upon request. Metal and brass are in perfect condition as is the construction of the chair. They are quite heavy too for their size.
Dimensions: H 80 cm, W 55 cm, D 55 cm, SH 45 cm.

Carlo Pagano was part of the generation of Italian designers working with Arflex during the company’s most experimental years. Founded in 1947, Arflex pioneered the use of new upholstery techniques and collaborated with leading designers of the era. The ‘Campanula’ chair fits seamlessly in this context, alongside the work of contemporaries such as Gio Ponti and Marco Zanuso.
