Ico Parisi Console in Walnut and Cherrywood, Italy, 1950's
€10.100,00 EUR
Rare mid century modern Italian console by Ico Parisi, made in a refined combination of light walnut and darker cherrywood. The walnut gives the piece its soft, warm tone, while the cherry inlay on the top creates that deep, almost glowing herringbone field that draws you in without overpowering the form. The proportions are slim, upright, and very typical of Parisi in the second half of the 1950s, when his work often ran parallel to designers he collaborated with earlier, such as Paolo Buffa, and to the broader Italian modernist language shaped by figures like Gio Ponti.
One of the nicest details is the leg structure: sculptural, tapered, and ending in that characteristic Italian “boot” profile, a small but expressive gesture that gives the console its personality. The drawers have Parisi’s clean inset frames with rounded cherry pulls, and the dovetail joinery is crisp. The raised lip on the back edge of the top gives a small architectural line, keeping the silhouette tight and controlled. The console has been fully restored; the finish is soft, even, and the wood is in excellent condition throughout. Documented in Ico Parisi, Design Catalogue Raisonné by Roberta Lietta, Silvana Editoriale, 2017, p. 331.
