Scarpa was celebrated not only as an architect but also as a master of detail, proportion, and material. The Cornaro shows this perfectly: architectural in presence, yet generous in comfort.

The frames are made of solid iroko wood, dark and rich, with a beautiful grain still visible. The construction is minimal, almost reduced to essentials, but the proportions are finely judged. Thick rounded beams give strength and definition without heaviness. The wood across all pieces in this set is in excellent condition with only minor traces of use. Iroko is strong.

If you look closely at the photos you’ll also notice a small but very Scarpa-like touch: the exposed leather strap that runs through the frame. Everything is present and in place, and it adds a crafted honesty to the design. It also gives the set a third material element alongside the wood and the fabric — almost like finishing an outfit with a belt. That mix of textures is what makes the Cornaro feel complete, architectural yet playful at the same time.

The upholstery is still original and shows the panel stitching that gives the cushions their distinctive rhythm. The stitching is intact, but the green fabric has reached the end of its life. It no longer holds up for use and needs to be replaced, and that is why we are able to offer the set at this price. When reupholstered, the same stitching technique can be applied again, which requires extra skill but preserves the sculptural quality Scarpa intended.

When reupholstered, the stitching can be recreated in the same original manner. It requires a bit more work and skill than standard upholstery, but that is exactly what gives the Cornaro its sculptural look. Every local upholsterer should be able to this since this technique is quite common, it's just some extra work.

Available pieces:

– One armchair and one two-seater, both structurally excellent, requiring new upholstery.
