More than 10% of the veneer had to be replaced but hey you want to be circular and sustainable right? The result is a fully up-cycled set of the famous Carlo Ratti dining room chairs. A professional restorer has spent days cutting the right pieces of veneer and putting them back in place. So 90% of the chairs are intact and for the other 10% we gave them the old Levi's 501 look where you can clearly see the multiple different restorations if you look from close by. From a small distance it's hard to see. As a dealer I buy a lot of pieces and very often you can see former reparations in the veneer. When this is nicely done and you see these nice details after a while, I always get a bit delighted by this. It contributes to the value because labor and craftsmanship is something luxurious nowadays and it means that someone has put time and energy into something. It also contributes to the environmental and circular mindset that people have nowadays. Why not making old chairs beautiful again instead of buying new ones? Such a restoration project just feels very right somehow. We hope you feel the same and that you like the end result just as much as we do.

About the chairs themselves: They have some similarities with the Medea chais by Vittorio Nobili because of the curved and bended wood. In the 1950's this became increasingly popular when new methods of production were invented. By steaming the multiplex and putting them in a mold you could bend them in almost any shape. The difference with the Medea chairs are the straight top of the backrest and and the seating and also the slit in the middle seating part where the wood comes together. The slit is held in place by the metal frame. Note that this metal frame is still very original and still has the small metal cross connection at the bottom. Not many sets have this and it's still in very good condition.

Smart shipping: we can detach the seating from the frame making it much cheaper to ship them. Guillerme et Chambron were a celebrated French design duo—Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron—whose work became iconic in the mid-20th century. Before they became known for their furniture, their story had a fascinating beginning. Their furniture company, Votre Maison, was established in the aftermath of World War II, and the factory they utilized had indeed been previously involved in weapon manufacturing. This history is a poignant reflection of post-war Europe, where industries were repurposed to rebuild and focus on peacetime creations.

Guillerme and Chambron met during the war and joined forces in the late 1940s. Their shared vision emphasized craftsmanship, functionality, and innovative design. They primarily worked with French oak, chosen for its durability and beauty, and partnered with master cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, whose skills brought their concepts to life. Their furniture is recognized for its bold forms, intricate wood joinery, and a focus on comfort and usability.

The duo's designs, often playful yet sophisticated, stood out for their unique details, like sculpted backs, angled legs, and textured surfaces. Upholstery choices, such as woven fabrics, leather, or natural materials like rattan, complemented their woodwork beautifully. Their work also included iconic chairs, tables, and storage units, all characterized by a harmonious mix of sturdiness and elegance.

This particular set of chairs reflects their philosophy perfectly: blending strength with sensuality, functionality with artistry. These chairs are not only rare but also a testament to Guillerme et Chambron’s commitment to exceptional design and their ability to transform a utilitarian factory into a workshop for modern masterpieces. Their pieces remain highly collectible and are a great investment.

The set should still be reupholstered (as you can see) but all according to your wishes. Tailor made. We work with the best upholsterers and seat weavers so feel free to reach out to tell us your wishes. It will not cost the world because it's only the seating part. Personally I think we should try to put bamboo / rattan on them and make thin red cushion to balance out against the blonde wood, but some very light Pierre Frey wool with some cushioning underneath would do great too. There are many choices so just shoot us a message!

Dimensions
Width: 46 cm
Height: 83 cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1020/8041/4083/files/f_42371652_1732445045360_bg_processed.jpg?v=1781284144
set-of-3-hans-wegner-ch30-chairs-denmark-1960s-f-49454142
Set of 3 Hans Wegner "CH30" Chairs, Denmark, 1960's

Set of 3 (not two!) CH30 dining chairs by Hans Wegner in Oak and Teak and red upholstery.

This 1954 design is one of the outcomes of Wegner's ongoing search for the ideal chair. The curved organic shapes and the refined details make this chair a classic Wegner. He mainly worked with wood, making optimal use of the possibilities of the material.

The shapes of the CH30 Chair create a minimalist, elegant interplay of lines. The oval-shaped backrest slopes slightly backwards and offers good support for the back. The shape of the hind legs slopes backwards and thus ensures optimum stability. The seat of the chair is relatively wide and covered with red fabric stretched over a comfortable foam. The CH30P Chair is designed without armrests, making it perfect for sliding under any table. The chair takes up little space and is therefore also ideal for smaller dining areas. In short, a nice chair for long evenings dining!

The wood of this particular set of three has aged beautifully over time.
